SCHOOL LEAVERS SERVICE

16TH JULY 2014

We held our School Leavers Service in St Britius Church on Wednesday 16th July 2014, and said goodbye to Year 6.  Rev Roy Turner gave an address and introduced us to Albert the Mouse and played his guitar for us.  We enjoyed the songs and, at the end, there was laughter and tears!

SPORTS DAY

8TH JULY 2014

We held our annual traditional sports day on Tuesday 8th July...this year there was a commonwealth games theme, with the Year 6's opening the afternoon with a reenactment of the Queen's Baton Relay.  The weather held off and we were able to enjoy watching the children in the haggis relay, the Commonwealth Games obstacle race and the Year 6 egg toss - amongst many other races.

Well done to all of the children who took part - you were fab

SWIMMING GALA

7TH JULY 2014

On Monday 7th July, we attended the partnership Swimming Gala at Carterton Leisure Centre. There was an amazing turnout with 7 schools and 150 children competing. The atmosphere was electric for every race with some amazing performances from every child.

We were very proud of Brize Norton pupils and were thrilled to come 3rd overall.

TAG RUGBY - CHAIRMAN'S CUP

21ST MAY 2014

On 21st May we took a tag rugby team to Horspath Road to play in the annual Chairman's Cup.  Having won the first round, we went on to play the winners of each group.  After some very exciting games and some awesome try's, we came 2nd overall; well done!!  The pictures are here.

Gary Morris the organiser wrote "No matter where you came at the end, I hope you all enjoyed the day, and remember you finished higher in the County,  than those that didn't come.  It was fantastic to see so many teams and players, and to think we lost 10 teams, 120 players, for a number of reasons, before we kicked off.
The feedback from the referees was great to hear, especially about the standard of play, so well done to all those who have given the children a chance to play". Here is an extract final positions and a link from London wasps, who helped to referee.

OUTDOOR LEARNING WOW DAY

2 MAY 2014

As part of our 'What it is to be healthy' topic, we organised a WOW Day to get all of the children working in the great outdoors and making the most of our wonderful school grounds.

On the day, the children were organised into mixed age teams and given the name of a famous adventurer or explorer.  They were given stopwatches to time each activity, a timetable of activities and a supply of rations which they could decide to have at any time.  Over the course of the day, the teams independently moved around taking part in activities such as cooking bread over an open fire, building shelters in the wildlife area, bouldering, problem solving, orienteering and problem solving.

We would like to thank Paul Webb of H5 Adventure for running the team building/problem solving games.

The pictures are here

Comments from the children:-

"I loved the WOW Day! Can we do it again next year?"
"Mmmmm - the bread was delicious!"
"We need to work as a team."
"It was fun making the shelters."

YEAR 5/6 TAG RUGBY TEAM

5TH MARCH 2014

On Wednesday 5th March we took a year 5/6 tag rugby team to Burford Secondary School to take part in a tournament.

We won 5 matches and drew 1 - and the children were amazing. It was, therefore, thoroughly deserved when we heard that we had come 1st.

Well done to all of the children that took part, and thank you Bridie Gill for coming to help out at sports club week after week!!

SINGING AT THE 02 ARENA

On Thursday 30th January, we took KS2 to London in order to perform at the O2.  Both children and staff had an amazing day, singing with the 7500 strong Young Voices choir.

It was a most unforgettable experience.  More pictures here

CHRISTMAS PLAYS 2013

A huge well done to all of the children and adults in school for two amazing productions this year. Class 1 and 2 performed 'It's a Baby! This was absolutely amazing; the children sang beautifully and the solos were delightful. Class 3 and 4 performed 'Hoodwinked', an adaptation of Robin Hood. This had the audience in stitches throughout. Well done to everyone involved! See more photos here.

STORYTELLING GARDEN OPENING

DECEMBER 2013

On 6th December we opened our new storytelling garden. We were joined by governors, staff and members of the School Association. It was lovely to invite the De'Ath family, and their extended family who very kindly donated money towards our project. We had a lovely afternoon cutting the ribbon, listening to a story in the garden and then enjoying tea and cake. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to ensure we have a lovely new learning space at our school. See more photos here.
