SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN

Brize Norton Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

As a school we fully comply with safer recruitment practices. As part of this compliance, all staff, governors and regular volunteers undertake an enhanced CRB check. The school keeps a central record of all identification checks and CRB disclosures for all staff, governors, volunteers and visiting professionals.

CHILD PROTECTION

The school has a duty of care and the right to take reasonable action to ensure the welfare and safety of its pupils. If the school has cause to be concerned that a pupil may be subject to ill treatment, neglect or any other form of abuse, the school will follow the Child Protection Procedures - first meeting with parents/carers (if appropriate), and then, if a satisfactory conclusion is not evident, or concerns remain for the well being of the child, refer the case to Social Services for further investigation.

However, our first priority is your child's welfare and therefore there may be occasions when our concern about your child means that we may have to consult other agencies before we contact you. All staff, governors and volunteers who have one to one contact with children receive Child Protection training every three years. Designated members of staff for Child Protection receive training every two years.

SITE SECURITY

Brize Norton Primary School strives to keep the school site safe and secure. All access gates to the playground are locked at 9.10am and are opened at the end of the school day, 3.15pm.  All visitors including parents making visits to the school during the school day must report to the main reception, via Station Road. All visitors are expected to sign in to the building. Visiting professionals are expected to carry identification and wear a visitor badge. Visiting professionals working with children are required to provide proof of their enhanced CRB before they commence work with children.

At Brize Norton Primary School we are keen to work with you to embrace the digital world in which our children are growing up in, and empower our children to keep themselves safe in the online world - both at school and at home.

Our ICT and E-Learning policy provides detail on how children are taught to use the Internet and Email responsibly in school and when using such resources out of school. The ICT Co-ordinator monitors pupils use of the Internet and Email in school and should be the first point of contact if parents have any concern. Where parents have a concern of a child protection/safeguarding nature, they should contact the headteacher.

ANTI-BULLYING POLICY

At Brize Norton Primary School we are committed to ensuring that pupils learn in a supportive, caring and safe environment without fear of being bullied. Bullying is anti-social behaviour and affects everyone; it is not acceptable under any circumstances; and is best prevented through an ethos based on mutual respect and equality. The raising of children’s self-esteem and self-confidence is central to the work and life of the school.

We recognise that bullying will happen from time to time. The fact that it is not always reported does not mean it is not happening. Bullying makes children’s lives unhappy and can hinder learning and therefore needs to be dealt with using a consistent approach.

The school takes all incidents of bullying seriously and always aims to work with parents and children to ensure that incidents are dealt with quickly and in the interests of all children.
