SPORT AT BRIZE NORTON

At Brize Norton Primary School we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our children. We believe that a varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all of our children.

As part of a new government initiative to develop school sports, every primary school in the country has been provided with funding to support additional sports provision. Our Primary School Sports Funding will enable us to continue to extend the provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions (both internal and external) and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.

What is the Sports Premium?

The government is providing £150 million per annum for the academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15 to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see the money going directly to primary school head teachers to spend on improving the quality of Sport and PE for all children. Each school will receive £8000 plus and extra £5 per child each year for the next two years. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

7-A-SIDE HOCKEY AGAINST BAMPTON

23RD MARCH 2015

On Monday 23rd we played a 7-a-side hockey match against Bampton Primary School at Carterton Community College 3G pitches.  My goodness, it was an exciting match!!

In the first few minutes, Bampton scored a goal against us - and another 2 followed shortly afterwards.  Despite being 3-0 down, Brize continued to battle on with some excellent clearances from Oliver and Freddie.  Often, we would battle for the ball in the midfield, get the ball and take it up the field - only for it to be cleared again!  But, we didn’t give up - even when we had another goal scored against us!!  Finally, in the dying minutes Theo came on as Brize were moving forward, and popped the ball in the back of the net!  In the second half, Brize were on the attack.  Issy, Kate and Daisy worked tirelessly in the midfield, winning the ball and moving it out.  Soon, our next goal came from Jai after an amazing run from the halfway line.  Then, we were awarded a short corner and Fin managed to hit the back of the net.  Now we were back in the match…but let our guard down and Bampton scored again.  Nevertheless, Brize pulled together and Jai scored again - just as the whistle for the end of the match came.

After a quick chat, some water and homemade rocky road (thanks Mrs Shipway), the children went back on the pitch to play sudden death.  Brize got stuck in straight away and Jai scored his 3rd goal after a couple of minutes!

It was a very closely fought, nail biting match.  Well done to all of the children from both schools!

Thanks also to Rachel Mills for organising the match, pitch and JSLA’s to umpire.

U9 5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

22 October 2014

On Wednesday 22nd October we took along a squad of 10 children to an U9 5-a-side football tournament.

The children were all VERY excited as, for some, it was there first time at representing the school. Well, hats off to them, they were fab. They had never played as a team before but they soon got the hang of it. All of the children made some fantastic tackles and many of them had a really good run at the opposition's goal.

In the first match, Freddie and Toby made numerous attempts on goal until - finally - the ball hit the back of the net.  In the meantime, at the other end of the pitch, our amazing goalkeeper - Shivam - was forced to make save after save (well done!).

For many of the girls, this was their first ever football match - but you would never have known it; they defended, tackled, made runs down the line and generally got stuck in.  As for Kate, well her determination almost paid off in the final game when she won the ball from a tackle, dribbled the ball up the pitch and had a shot on goal; the keeper was lucky to save it. However, he wasn't as lucky when Theo won the ball in defence, sprinted up the pitch and popped the ball in the back of the net!

Ok, so we didn't win - but the kids were great and did the school proud; well done

TAG RUGBY - CHAIRMAN'S CUP

21ST MAY 2014

On 21st May we took a tag rugby team to Horspath Road to play in the annual Chairman's Cup.  Having won the first round, we went on to play the winners of each group.  After some very exciting games and some awesome try's, we came 2nd overall; well done!!  The pictures are here.

Gary Morris the organiser wrote "No matter where you came at the end, I hope you all enjoyed the day, and remember you finished higher in the County,  than those that didn't come.  It was fantastic to see so many teams and players, and to think we lost 10 teams, 120 players, for a number of reasons, before we kicked off.
The feedback from the referees was great to hear, especially about the standard of play, so well done to all those who have given the children a chance to play". Here is an extract final positions and a link from London wasps, who helped to referee.

Well done to all of the children that took part, and thank you Bridie Gill for coming to help out at sports club week after week!!
