Brize Norton Parish Council Newsletter |
You are here: Community > Brize Norton > Parish Council NewsletterPlease note that this might not be the latest issue of the Parish
Newsletter. Here is the text from the Dec 2015 Newsletter Published here with permission of the Parish Council.
BRIZE NORTON ACTION GROUPBNAG have been waiting expectantly for the hearings in respect
of the WODC Local Plan 2031. Mr Simon Emerson has been appointed
Planning Inspector. HORTICULTURAL SHOW 2015Another amazing show was held on August Bank Holiday; we had an increased number of entries on last year, and some fantastic entries amongst those. Once again it was good to see some new villagers entering the show. Witney TV attended and the video of the day can be seen on their website, certainly worth a look.
BRIZE NORTON PRIMARY SCHOOLHello from everyone at Brize Norton School! Or should I say “konichiwa”? Yes, we are continuing our efforts to make our little school even more special by teaching Japanese to everyone from Year 1 to Year 6. We are lucky to have a teacher, Mrs Barker, who spent several years in Japan, and the children are just loving learning a new, exciting language alongside the French they already do. I was also lucky enough to be able to join a head teachers’ tour of Japan over half term and we are hoping to set up a link with a school there. It’s a fascinating country, so like us in many ways but also so different. The children clean the school but it’s very normal for a primary school to have a swimming pool with adjustable-height floor…
WODC RECYCLING ROADSHOWS
HAVE YOUR SAY ON WASTE AND RECYCLING COLLECTIONS
|
![]() |
In the run up to Christmas, West Oxfordshire residents are
invited to a free tour of the Agrivert’s anaerobic digestion
food waste plant at Cassington to find out what happens to food
leftovers collected weekly by the Council. Booking is essential
for the popular hour-long tour on Wednesday 9th December at
10.30am. All food waste in West Oxfordshire is collected weekly
and recycled locally, instead of being landfilled. It is taken
to the anaerobic digestion plant where it is recycled into a
liquid fertiliser called 'digestate' for use on local farmland
and renewable electricity is generated, enough to power 4,000
homes on an on-going basis, as a by-product during the process. To book a place on the tour, or for further information about waste and recycling in West Oxfordshire, call 01993 861000 or visit: www.westoxon.gov.uk |
Thank you to everyone who supported our first Autumn Ball which took place at Witney Lakes on October 2nd. A great night was had by all and we raised an amazing £1,700 for our wonderful school!

Our next big event is a traditional Christmas Bazaar. This takes place in school on Sunday 6th December, from 1pm until 4pm. There will be stalls, games and refreshments for everyone including a tombola, grand raffle, cakes and cards, and, for our younger visitors, there is the opportunity to meet Father Christmas in his grotto. We hope to see you there! |

We are a village group of 28 members who meet twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays in the month. Meetings take place at 4 Squires Close at 2pm. After the meeting we enjoy a chat over sandwiches, homemade cakes and tea provided by June, Connie and Benita. Many thanks girls. We have enjoyed a busy autumn; Gordon’s talk on bonsai trees was very interesting and we enjoyed our meal at Lyneham golf club and the trip to Moreton market.
We have a coffee morning at 4 Squire’s Close on Tuesday 1st
December when everyone is welcome. We will have a ‘bring and
buy’, and raffle too.
Other events on our future programme are as follows:

We are pleased to say the number of children at the pre-school
are currently high with a long waiting list for the future.
We are starting our Christmas activities (lots of glitter!) and
also planning our nativity show which we hope that the village
will support us as it does each year.
You are all welcome to attend our Christmas Nativity and Party on Friday 18th December at 10.30am. |

Diane and Trudy would like to say THANK YOU to all who attended
and donated towards Macmillan Cancer Support at the ‘Coffee
Morning’ they held on Friday 25th September. Total donations
were £268.13. A new service run by Oxfordshire Advocacy in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, providing one to one support for anyone aged 50+ affected by cancer, whether they are a Patient or a Carer. “Having an advocate at my appointments just made all the difference in the world, because I didn’t have to be the Rosie-the-nurse, Rosie-the-patient, Rosie-the-everything. I could just focus on me and what people were saying to me, knowing that my advocate was writing stuff down and if I got it wrong, then she’d talk me through it but also would help me challenge… If it hadn’t been for the advocate being there and stepping in I think I might have ended up having completely the wrong type of treatment for me.” ..If you know of anyone affected by cancer and aged 50 or more ..If you feel that they might benefit from having a Macmillan trained volunteer to support them at appointments or with getting the practical help they need ..If you are interested in volunteering yourself Give us a call on 01865 230203 or email copa@oadg.org.uk |

I am building an archive of information including photographs of
our village school. This includes details of the early history,
early photos and memorabilia as well as full coverage for the
last 10 or more years. This will be a valuable resource for
those who want to delve into the archives. The website can be
found on the community website at
www.bncommunity.org . I would welcome villagers’ memories or material they would be willing to share, especially for the decades before 2000; please e-mail p.holmes@brizenorton.org or phone 843856. |
Would you like free firewood, or do you have a woodland that
needs managing? The Trust for Oxfordshire’s Environment’s “Logs
for Labour” programme aims to promote sustainable use of
firewood by running events where volunteers help to manage
woodlands in return for logs. The events run most weekends in
the winter, are about 3 hours long, and could involve coppicing
hazel, thinning trees or piling up brash. All you need are
sturdy gloves, shoes and a saw (only hand tools are allowed for
insurance reasons)… or let us know if your woodland needs the
help of volunteers. Information about forthcoming events is at
www.oxonwoodfuel.org.uk/logs-for-labour or ‘like’

you haven’t received a gift before and think you now qualify
please let me know by Monday 30 November 2015. This is available
