It has been a good time for
recognition! At the end of last year Philip was given the
High Sheriff of Oxfordshires' award for Outstanding Service to
the Community (see write up
here) and now we have learnt that the Equine Unit of
Abingdon & Witney College where Juliet has been Yard Manager &
Instructor for the past 8 years has won the Queen's Prize for
Higher & Further Education
(see announcement
here and for more about the Queen's Prizes
here) .
This entails a Queen's Award Prize Winners Dinner at the
Guildhall in London followed by a visit to Buckingham Palace
(not sure if it will be the Queen herself). It is good to know
that all of Juliet's hard work (in all weathers) is to be
rewarded! |

Otherwise it has been a quiet
year. Jon has consolidated his role as Head of Boarding at Repton
Prep School.
Katie and Rosie are both enjoying school and doing well. Charlie
is about to join the RAF and Harry is training
to be a chef! Steve has been out to Korea again where the ozone
plants he installed are working well in Shell's
biggest ship in the world.
We have enjoyed two holidays at
Jon & Bex's cottage near Bude in April and September, both times we have
been lucky with the weather and did lots of walking mainly along the
coast (plus lots of eating out).
In October we visited Andalucia. Rhonda, Seville, Cordoba and
Granada all lovely but the Alhambra
in Granada definitely has the double "wow" factor.
We continue to do volunteer
reading at Brize School and Philip is still churchwarden at St Britius
so life is still pretty busy, also picking up Rosie from school and
finding interesting things to do
in the school holidays!
Next year is our golden wedding
anniversary and we are planning one more trip to the States in April,
flying into San Francisco, visiting the Yosemite National Park, picking up a car and
driving down Highway 1 via
the Big Sur to San Diego. Something exiting to look forward to.
