Looking back 2022
has been a year of celebrations. It started on New Year's Eve/Day
with unusually all the family together for dinner and the girls stopping
up 'til midnight to see in the New Year.
In February we
celebrated our eightieth birthdays with a dinner party at Jacquie and
Garry's, with Roy and Bev, another dinner hosted by Ju, a great day in
Bath with Roy and Bev which included coffee and buns at Sally Lunn's,
afternoon tea in the Pump Room and a wonderful evensong in the Abbey.
Later Jon and Bex
treated us to a theatre visit to the Oxford Playhouse to see Noel
Coward's "Private Lives" with Nigel Havers and Patricia Routledge.
A lot of time was
spent getting the garden ready for Open Gardens Day in the village which
raised a good profit for the NGS. We relaxed afterwards by
celebrating our 56th wedding anniversary at the Saracens Head at Symonds
Yatt.
A further
celebration was for the family to holiday together in Crete some 40
years since our first holiday there in 1983. The island has
changed a lot but it is still easy to avoid the tourist areas and find
the real Crete and the people are as welcoming as ever. When not
jumping in the pool, the girls went swimming on horseback and fishing,
Steve took his bike exploring the countryside and Jon went running miles
to an isolated bay.
Both Rosie and Katie continue their passion for horse riding, and Jon
for running, coming thirteenth in the Cotswold Way Challenge (3
Marathons back to back over 24 hours). Steve continues to enjoy
all forms of biking in Wales and the Forest of Dean. Katie has
also started climbing!!
Finally a further
reason for celebration, both Charlie and Harry have got engaged (Charlie
to Hannah, Harry to Mollie) and have wedding plans afoot for 2023 and
2024!
Wishing everyone a very happy and healthy 2023.
