Class 3 - What this meant for us

Our Tsunami Pictures

Jason explains the wave pictures:  We each painted our piece of paper with blue and white, grey and silver paints to represent a wave.  We then mounted it and placed our poem on the centre.  The poem was written on a piece of paper which was wave shaped.

Lucy explains the Tsunami poems:  We put ourselves in their position.  We then wrote about how we would feel.  We had to decide if we wanted to be a child, an adult or a person helping.

Our Tsunami Plaques

Georgina P explains how the acrylic plaques were made:  First we needed a container lid and some cling film just bigger than the lid.  We poured some pva glue onto the cling film.  We blobbed some blue and white paint on top of the glue then we swirled it with a glue spreader.  We let the plaque dry on a radiator.  Some of us cut our artwork into different shapes.  We peeled off the cling film, punched a hole in the top and threaded them with nylon so that we could hang our plaques in the window.  This was so that every time we looked at them, we would remember what happened in the Tsunami.

Pip explains the choice of words to describe the Tsunami:    We discussed with our teacher which word we would use to describe the Tsunami.  The word we chose was "bad".  Our teacher asked us to find synonyms for the word "bad" using a thesaurus.  There were some words we couldn't use because they didn't describe the Tsunami well.  Some of the words we chose to use were: vile, shocking, abysmal and dangerous.  Some words we did not chose were rotten, ashamed and criminal.
